NEET UG 2026 Paper Leak: Nashik Student Allegedly Bought Question Paper for ₹10 Lakh, Sold It for ₹15 Lakh
The NEET UG 2026 paper leak case shocks India as a Nashik student allegedly bought the question paper for ₹10 lakh and sold it for ₹15 lakh. Investigation underway.
One of the significant developments in the current saga revolving around the scrapping of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026, which is one of the most competitive exams conducted by India, has been the discovery of a racket wherein a student from Nashik reportedly bought the question paper after it was leaked for Rs.10 lakh and resold it for Rs.15 lakh, thereby making money from it illegally.
According to reports, the person accused in the case, who goes by the name of Shubham Khairnar, is approximately 30 years old and was arrested as part of a broader investigation into the leaking of papers case. The leaked paper is said to have been accessed almost 45 hours before the exam was supposed to take place.
Leak Spread Across Multiple States
Preliminary investigations reveal that this leak was not confined within the borders of one city. It appears that the paper might have been copied and sent to the candidates and agents in various states, such as Haryana and Kerala, demonstrating that this is an interstate business. It is currently under investigation how this secret paper was circulated.
It seems that after purchasing the paper from people associated with the exam mafia, the accused sold this paper at a higher price to the aspirants desiring to achieve their dreams in an unjust manner. The commercial aspect of the examination fraud is evident from this process.
NEET UG 2026 Cancelled
The situation has become so grave that the National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers the NEET exam, has decided to cancel the entire examination conducted on May 3rd, which would have affected around 22 lakh applicants. The situation has created frustration, anger, and emotional turmoil among the aspiring candidates who had prepared for years.
The candidates who had prepared honestly face another uncertain future due to this cancellation. They have spent years preparing for one chance, taken coaching classes, changed cities, and now will be waiting for new dates for a re-test.
CBI and Multi-State Investigation
The issue has reached such proportions that a national level inquiry has become necessary, with the Central Bureau of Investigation and local police raiding, arresting, and questioning suspects in various states. Many people have already been arrested from cities like Jaipur, Gurugram, Nashik, and elsewhere.
In addition to finding out how the leaks originated—in the form of printing presses, transportation, insider information, or even cybercrime—the authorities are looking for individuals who might have paid for access to the paper.
Bigger Questions on Exam Security
The NEET paper leak has yet again put into question the safety of the examination process in India. Educators believe that there is a need for better encryption, digital transmission technologies, improved logistical operations, biometrics, and quicker legal action to prevent future occurrences of such fraud.
Several controversies surrounding national-level examinations have already undermined the faith of students and their parents. Unless changes are made soon, the system of merit-based selection could be in jeopardy.
What Happens Next?
The NTA will probably make an announcement regarding the NEET UG 2026 re-exam dates very soon. At the same time, investigations into the matter are ongoing, and more arrests can be expected once all the details are known.
What millions of students want now is to sit for a test that is clean, unbiased, and conducted honestly without any favoritism or corruption.
