T20 World Cup 2026: Indian Batters Dominate as Zimbabwe Crumble Under Pressure

India did a great job of following the plan of posting big runs and putting pressure on the other team by putting them on the scoreboard. Zimbabwe's choice to field after winning the toss also helped the host's cause.

The defending champion beat Sikandar Raza's team by 72 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup Super Eight Group 1 match at the loud M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday, February 26, 2026. India's 256 for four was too high, and Zimbabwe ended with 184 for six.

Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani started off well together, but when Axar Patel got rid of Marumani, Bennett changed his approach. The left-arm spinner was hit hard and went over the ropes, but Varun Chakaravarthy got Dion Myers out.

Brutal attack
The visitors, on the other hand, leaned on Bennett (97 n.o.) and he hit Jasprit Bumrah for six to reach his fifty. He was very hard on Shivam Dube, giving up 26 runs in one over. Raza teamed up with Bennett for a while, but Arshdeep Singh took three wickets, and India stayed in control.

People cheered for Sanju Samson, the newest member of the Chennai Super Kings, and Abhishek Sharma also had fans. The openers set a crazy pace when Samson lifted Richard Ngavara. As Samson galloped, Blessing Muzarabani also met the same end.

At the same time, Abhishek hit Tinotenda Maposa past the covers and then hit it high.

Samson, on the other hand, found his pull to the fielder in the deep. India already had 48 runs in 3.4 overs. Right away, left-handed batsmen Abhishek and Ishan Kishan put together a partnership that scored 72 runs in 42 balls.

The Men in Blue were on the rise, and it was good for them that Abhishek (55) got his groove back. It was a stroke of luck that Kishan fell on 26 because Tashinga Musekiwa couldn't hold on.

Kishan, who was relieved, hit Raza for a four and a six, then edged the spinner and ran away.

Suryakumar Yadav walked in and moved around to find his scoops. Muzarabani dropped eight, and the captain watched Abhishek leave. But the happy streak continued when Hardik Pandya (50 n.o.) strolled in.

The all-rounder sent Ryan Burl flying, and after Suryakumar left, Tilak Varma lit up the skies with bright shots. The left-hander waded into the enemy attack with power and disdain, and India's strong hold on the match never wavered, even though Bennett was acting alone.
