Hormuz Crisis Escalates: Iran Warns of Total Blockade, Strikes on Energy Targets After Trump Warning

Iran will not be coerced by threats, according to Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who has rejected US President Donald Trump's 48-hour ultimatum regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He underlined the connection between fair trade and freedom of navigation, adding that the crucial shipping route is only accessible to nations Iran does not view as allied with the United States and Israel.

As the Middle East conflict, which is currently in its fourth week, threatens lives and livelihoods throughout the region, the United States and Iran have threatened to target vital infrastructure. Iran stated that if the United States pursues President Donald Trump's threat to attack its power plants, the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital to oil and other exports, will be "completely closed" right away.

Hezbollah claimed to have attacked soldiers in northern Israel, and Israel reported that rocket fire from Lebanon killed one person on Sunday, March 22, 2026. This is the first time that fire from Lebanon has killed someone in Israel since the most recent conflict began.

With the exception of ships connected to "Iran's enemies," the Strait of Hormuz is still open to all shipping. Following U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to target Iranian power plants if the waterway were not "fully opened" within 48 hours, Iran's representative to the U.N. maritime agency said on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

The fighting that has rocked the world economy, sent oil prices skyrocketing, and jeopardized some of the busiest air corridors in the world has shown no signs of an uprising or an end. Over 2,000 people have died in the conflict, which was started on February 28 by the United States and Israel.
