After the Ama bus crash, the Odisha police are making checks on passenger vehicles more strict.

Bhubaneswar: Jan 4 (PTI) On Sunday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said he was very worried about the many accidents caused by the state-run "Ama Bus." He told the authorities to train drivers to improve their skills and make them more aware of their surroundings.

This order from the chief minister comes a day after an autorickshaw driver died in an accident caused by a "Ama Bus" here on Saturday. The police said that the "Ama Bus" hit the auto-rickshaw from behind while it was stopped at the busy Rupali Chhak traffic stop with two passengers.

The accident killed the autorickshaw driver and hurt two passengers, one of whom was a female student. "One of the passengers is getting treatment at the Capital Hospital, and another who was hurt was sent home after treatment," an officer said.

He said that the bus driver, who ran away from the scene of the accident, was arrested and charged with culpable homicide.
Majhi said he was very sad about the death of the autorickshaw driver, Bishnu Patra (62) from Jajpur district. He also said that the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) would give him Rs 4 lakh.

The chief minister also hoped that Namita Pradhan, the injured student, would get better quickly.

The CM's office says that he has told the Transport department to work with the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), which runs the city buses, to fix this problem.

He has told the Ama Bus drivers to get regular training to help them improve their skills, with a focus on their mental and physical health. The CMO said that he had suggested making a training module to help them develop a more sensitive attitude.

It also said that the chief minister told the Transport department to put together a special team to check the buses' fitness on a regular basis. He also told the Transport department to keep an eye on things and do everything they can to make sure that these kinds of bad things don't happen again.

A team led by Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur started an enforcement drive at the Ama Bus stand at Master Canteen here soon after getting orders from the CM.

In the same way, the CRUT has given the family of the dead person Rs 2 lakh right away and the injured college student Rs 50,000.
Hundreds of autorickshaw drivers, on the other hand, protested at the Ama Bus depot in Bhubaneswar city to show how upset they were about the death of their friend.

"The Ama buses have killed a number of people. It is a bus that kills. "How many more lives will the buses take?" an autorickshaw driver asked.

After the Ama Bus accident on Saturday, the city police started a special crackdown on speeding and drunk driving on Sunday, focusing on passenger vehicles.

S. Dev Datta Singh, the police commissioner for Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, along with ACP Narasingha Bhol and DCP Jagmohan Meena, went to Station Square and Rupali Square to oversee the enforcement drive.

Meena said that CCTV cameras in the city are catching people breaking the law, such as riding without a helmet. However, manual checks for drunk driving will still be done. On that day, the city checked over 100 passenger vehicles, including Ama Buses.

Officials from the transportation department also checked out different Ama Bus depots in the city. Amitabh Thakur, the transport commissioner, checked out the Station Square depot. Other cities, such as Cuttack, Puri, Sambalpur, Berhampur, and Rourkela, also had similar inspections.

The regional transport offices (RTOs) have been told to look into the drivers of Ama Bus who work for them. On that day, officials from the Transport department checked 177 Ama Buses in different parts of the state.

At the same time, auto-rickshaw drivers in the city protested the accident and asked for Rs 10 lakh in compensation for the victim's family.
