India’s social media landscape has witnessed the meteoric rise of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), an online satirical movement that describes itself as “a political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth.” Within just a few days of its launch, the movement has become one of the country’s most talked-about political phenomena on Instagram.

The Instagram handle @cockroachjantaparty crossed the remarkable milestone of 9 million followers on May 20, making it one of the fastest-growing Instagram pages in India. Reports suggest the account gained more than 3 million followers in just 78 hours after launch, before surging past 9 million followers within only four days.

The rapid growth has placed the page ahead of several major political parties on Instagram. The official BJP account, @bjp4india, currently has around 8.7 million followers, while the Congress account, @incindia, stands at approximately 13.2 million followers. The Aam Aadmi Party’s Instagram account has nearly 1.9 million followers.

The campaign reportedly began around May 16 as a satirical youth-driven response to statements allegedly linked to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during courtroom proceedings. Since then, the movement has gained significant traction among young audiences by focusing on issues such as:
