‘Request Kejriwal With Folded Hands’: Delhi Minister Accuses AAP of Burning Waste

Sirsa said that the local MLA told him that an AAP councillor set fire to trash in his ward and then filmed it.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the environment minister for Delhi, said on Wednesday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is purposefully burning trash to make the city's air pollution worse.

Sirsa said at a press conference in the capital, "I have to say this with regret: AAP is purposely burning trash to make pollution worse. They are burning trash and praying that the AQI goes up." They don't care about the people who live in Delhi. They shouldn't use such dirty politics.

The issue gained further attention after a video surfaced online showing waste being openly burned in residential areas, worsening Delhi’s air quality.

The accusations against the party led by Arvind Kejriwal came after the environment minister said he would take steps to reduce pollution levels that were getting worse.

Sirsa said that the local MLA told him that an AAP councillor set fire to the trash in his ward and then filmed it. He used the example of the Trilokpuri area in the capital.

The Delhi minister was talking about a video that AAP councilor Vijay Kumar shared that showed a pile of trash burning in the Trilokpuri area, making the already dirty air even dirtier.

"I beg Arvind Kejriwal with folded hands, please don't play such dirty politics. Your kids also live in Delhi. "Don't do this for your own people," Sirsa said.

Sirsa was at a press conference to talk about new restrictions in the capital, such as offices having to work from home and vehicles that don't meet BS6 standards not being allowed to enter Delhi.

"We are always working to make the air better in the coming week. Delhi will have 50% of its workers working from home, which is a big step. I ask the people of Delhi to get their PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificates starting tomorrow. Without a PUC certificate, they won't be able to get gas. There is also a ban on trucks bringing building materials into Delhi. "People coming from outside Delhi should bring cars that meet Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emissions standards," Sirsa told reporters, according to ANI.

AAP respond

In response to the BJP's claims, AAP said that Sirsa had a "habit of lying and cheating."

"AAP said that since Sirsa became environment minister, he had changed AQI readings by turning off monitoring systems and spraying water on AQI stations to make it look like something else was happening."

The party said that Sirsa's claim about burning garbage was "yet another lie." They also said that if the minister had any proof, he should file a FIR or stop making what they called "fake claims."

The capital's AQI on Wednesday was 334, which is in the "very poor" range. On Saturday, the pollution levels dropped to the "severe plus" level, which had been above 400 for three days in a row.
