Mumbai Accident: BEST Bus Crashes Into Pedestrians While Reversing, 4 Lose Lives

Mumbai: A BEST bus hit four people on Monday, killing them and injuring nine others. Officials said the event took place in Bhandup, Mumbai, around 10 p.m.

The hurt people have been taken to the hospital.

The biggest public bus company in the country is BEST, which stands for Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport.

The Mumbai Police said that the bus lost control before it hit people. The driver was backing up the bus at the end of its route when the accident happened.

A lot of police officers were sent to the scene of the accident soon after it happened to handle the situation and control traffic in the area.

Senior officials quickly went to the scene to help the emergency response teams.

Santosh Ramesh Sawant, 52, was driving the bus when the accident happened. Bhagwan Bhau Ghare, 47, was the conductor at the time.

The authorities are looking into what happened before the accident, including whether mechanical failure or other factors played a role.

Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister, said that the families of the people who died in the accident would each get Rs 5 lakh in financial help.

He called the event "extremely unfortunate" in a post on X and paid heartfelt tributes to the victims.
