At least 11 people have died and over 50 injured after two government buses collided in Sivaganga. Rescue teams are on-site, and authorities are investigating the cause of the tragic accident.

At least 11 people have died and more than 50 have been hurt in a crash between government buses in Sivaganga .
According to sources, the buses --one travelling from Kangeyam in Tiruppur to Karaikudi, and the other from Karaikudi in Sivaganga to Dindigul-- had a head-on collision around 5 pm.

SIVAGANGA: Two government buses crashed on the Thirupattur-Karaikudi main road in Sivaganga district on Sunday, killing at least 11 people and injuring more than 20.

Sources say that the buses crashed head-on around 5 p.m. One was going from Kangeyam in Tiruppur to Karaikudi, and the other was going from Karaikudi in Sivaganga to Dindigul.


An official statement says that all 11 people—9 women and 2 men—died right away.

The injured people have been taken to the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital in Karaikudi and Thirupattur for treatment.

When the police at the Natchiyapuram police station found out about the incident, they quickly went to the scene with a team of fire and rescue service workers.

SP Shiva Prasad looked over the area, and the Natchiyapuram police have started looking into what caused the accident.

A senior doctor at the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital told reporters that everything is ready to take care of and treat the people who were hurt in the accident.

MK Stalin, the Chief Minister, was shocked and sad about the accident and the deaths.

The Chief Minister told the District Collector and Minister KR Periyakaruppan, the minister in charge of the district, to help the people who were affected and make sure the injured get the right care.

He also said that the families of the victims would get Rs. three lakh each, and those who were seriously hurt would get Rs. one lakh.

The CM said that people with minor injuries would get Rs 50,000.

He sent his condolences to the families of the dead and wished the injured people a quick recovery.
